Hand-carved book safes silhouette products from independent New York City designers and boutiques. Customers have the option to buy an item by texting a Subcode to have it shipped to them, or to pay in cash for both the product and the book safe. The "bookstore" experiment was inspired by the antiquated New York City vendor laws. Street vendors without a license are restricted to selling items that are either printed matter and/or art. A percentage of "bookstore" sales was donated to the Street Vendor Project to help fight these outdated laws.
