Subports is a New York-based mobile technology business that’s changing the landscape of how people do business. By enabling buyers, sellers and donors to use ordinary text messages in the transactions of products and services, Subports significantly lowers the barrier of doing business both online and in person. We work exclusively with independently-owned shops, designers, and artists, as well as a variety of non-profits.
Information spreads quicker by the day, and through diverse channels: word-of-mouth, blogs, social networking sites, advertising, print and other traditional media. Through Subports, any of these can be utilized as a point of sale. We integrate this diverse way of shopping into retail experiments and pop-up shops that bring both venerable and new-to-the-scene designers into our network.
Our network is continuously expanding, and includes independent retailers in the fashion, contemporary design, music, events, and yoga / wellness industries. We create PORTAL sites for these businesses, which enable them to represent their companies though elegant and customizable web-based storefronts. We aim to support local businesses by helping them easily activate a retail presence, and by giving them a competitive advantage in promotion, marketing, and selling.
Subports operates through the use of subcodes, which are unique codes that enable the purchase of individual goods and services. Subcodes can be recognized as anything within "quotation marks." Users can search for, learn more about, or purchase a product or service by texting its subcode on their mobile phone to 767825 (which spells PORTAL). This generates an informational reply or order confirmation. When making a purchase, the confirmation arrives both by text and email, and the product is then shipped to your address or available for pickup. Transactions are completely secure; all customer information is protected, products can only be shipped to the user's address, and all transactions are easily and immediately reversible.
